Our host site toonzone.net published a press release November 14th for the upcoming direct-to-video movie Scooby-Doo! Mask of the Blue Falcon.
Walmart.com has a more detailed product description for this title with info not included in the press release (or on Amazon’s product listing):
The Mega Mondo Pop Cartoon-a-Con in sunny California marks the spot for mystery in this all-new original Scooby-Doo adventure! The HERCULOIDS, FRANKENSTEIN JR, and SPACE GHOST are just a few of the celebrated comic book characters headlining at the unconventional convention, plus there’s a megabucks movie premiere starring Scooby-Doo and Shaggy’s all-time favorite super heroes, Blue Falcon and Dynomutt! So when the gruesome villain Mr. Hyde unleashes monster bats, howling hounds and sinister slime upon the festivities, it’s time for Mystery Incorporated to follow the clues and set their monster traps. But it’s the pizza-snacking, super-powered tag team of Shaggy and Scooby-Doo who tap into their inner super hero to prevent the entire event from being smothered in ghoulish green goo! Like, right on, Dog Wonder.
Also included with this release: “Bonus Vintage Cartoons: “Comic Book Caper”, “Reflections in a Ghoulish Eye”, “The Scooby Coupe.” Two of these episodes are from The Scooby & Scrappy Doo Puppy Hour, and “Reflections” is from The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo and features the voice talents of Vincent Price, Susan Blu, Howard Morris, Arte Johnson, and Peter Cullen. All three vintage cartoons feature Don Messick as Scooby-Doo, Heather North as Daphne, and Casey Casem as Shaggy. (Don Messick also voices Scrappy-Doo.)
Incidentally, the Hyde Monster appearing in Mask of the Blue Falcon appears to be the same villain from the premiere episode of Dynomutt, Dog Wonder “Everybody Hyde!” (originally aired September 11, 1976 as part of The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour) in which the Mystery Inc gang also appeared. It seems odd that this episode is not among the ones included as bonus content. Warner Home Video, if you’re reading this — please make this happen! It would also be appropoo to include other Blue Falcon/Dynomutt crossover episodes from Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (“Heart of Evil”), Dexter’s Laboratory (“Dyno-Might”), and Johnny Bravo (“Johnny Makeover”).
Gary Owens was originally the voice of both Blue Falcon and Space Ghost. In the video preview for Mask of the Blue Falcon (linked below), Blue Falcon’s voice sounds like Jeff Glen Bennett (Johnny Bravo, Transformers Animated, Dexter’s Lab), but it’s possible Owens could reprising his role as Space Ghost. We will try to get confirmation of the full voice cast in the near future, but just from the promo you can hear Frank Welker as Fred and Scooby, and Matthew Lillard as Shaggy. (It seems likely that Grey Delisle and Mindy Cohn will voice Daphne and Velma, respectively, and it would be silly to assume Frank Welker would not reprise his role as Dynomutt.)
Note that this movie takes place at a Cartoon fan convention — dare we hope for cameos of voice actors too?
Scooby-Doo! Mask of the Blue Falcon releases exclusively via video on demand December 13, 2012. The Blu-Ray and DVD versions will street on February 26, 2013.
