Anime News Network talks with Yui Makino on her career as a musician and voice actor.
It was also announced recently that Yui will be one of the guests of honor at the New York Anime Festival on September 25-27, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Manhattan.
And here’s a little FYI for those unaware of the difference in how voice actors are recognized in Japan as opposed to North America:
In Japan, anime voice actors (referred to as “seiyuu”) are superstars and anime is a celebrated artform of media entertainment, whereas in the U.S. they are relatively unknown by the general public and animation is largely considered entertainment for kids. According to the press release linked above, Yui’s official blog (in Japanese) attracts 40-70k daily viewers and is the second most-popular voice actor blog in Japan. Now, granted, Yui is a Japanese pop star, but even the most popular voice actor blogs in the US (and frankly, there aren’t very many of them) see less than 5% of that kind of daily traffic.
