A hearty congratulations to voice actor/producer Dick Orkin and Dementia Music guru Dr. Demento on their nominations for “National – Pioneer” for the 2009 National Radio Hall of Fame Inductees.
Dick Orkin is the creator of the infamous “Chickenman” radio comedy series, and Dr. Demento (aka Barry Hansen) has voiced cameos on such cartoons as Bobby’s World and The Simpsons and is credited with introducing the world to Weird Al Yankovic (and the genre of funny/odd music is named “Dementia” in his honor as well).
Other nominees/inductees of note:
– Suspense, the classic CBS radio series, which featured the voices of Orson Welles, Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, Jack Benny, Phil Harris, and many other Old Time Radio stars.
– Harry Kalas, Philadelphia radio icon and voice of NFL Films.
The National Radio Hall of Fame inductions will take place during a live national radio broadcast from Chicago on Saturday, November 7. Premiere Radio Networks will produce and distribute the one-hour broadcast at 10 p.m. EST. View the full list of nominees and inductees at radiohof.org.
